Easy definition of a value= A quality in yourself/others which you aspire to, admire.
In September 2016 the year 5 children worked together to produce a list of “all the things inside us that make Burhill great”. They worked with Mrs Taylor to condense the long list of qualities they felt are important to develop inside ourselves during our primary school years. Then the teaching staff got together to determine the best order to explore the values in.
As a result of this work we now follow a Values Framework through which children explore the principles and qualities they aspire to as individuals. Children are introduced to (and revisit) our twenty two values over a period of two years, and they are encouraged to consider what each value means to them, their families and friends, and how they see those values being demonstrated in the world around them. We hope that by promoting a reflective approach to personal qualities, children will develop an understanding of the importance of individual behaviour and how it helps to shape the community in which they live and work.
We explore a value each month, through assemblies, PSHE sessions, P4C sessions, and just through general classroom life.
We fully uphold fundamental British values, and below we have indicated where Burhill values specifically link to the ABCD of fundamental British values (fBv)
